We met Kayla & Demitri back in January of 2020 when they reached out to our team about photographing their wedding, and immediately were drawn to their down-to-earth, warm personalities and love for each other. We were thrilled when they chose NSP to capture their wedding day, and couldn’t wait to get their engagement session on the books! Read along to get to know Kayla & Demitri and their adorable love story.

Q: Tell us the story of how you met!

A: "We lived on the same floor freshman year at Cornell University and were friends for two years before Demitri flew to Disney to ask me to be his girlfriend. I thought of him as more of a brother the first two years we knew each other, which, in hindsight, is hilarious."

Q: What was the first date like?

A: "I was working at Walt Disney World at the time, so we went out to dinner in Downtown Disney. We ran into some guy that Demitri hiked Mount Kilimanjaro with who ended up sneakily paying the bill. So, Demitri really won out that first date! The dress I'm wearing in our engagement photos is actually what I was wearing on that date - I knew I wanted to incorporate it into our photoshoot."

Q: What's your favorite story about the two of you?

A: "My entire life I always thought I was that asshole who cared way too much about my engagement ring and that my proposal would be centered around that. In actuality, when the moment came, I totally forgot about the ring and he actually had to ask me if I wanted to see it and put it on. That's when I REALLY knew he was someone special."

Q: When did you know you wanted to spend the rest of your lives together?

A: "When we moved to San Francisco after college away from all friends and family, we had to rely heavily on each other to get through the homesickness and hard times. That made us so much closer and we were able to experience so many new and exciting / scary things together."

Q: What are you looking forward to most in your future together?

A: "Starting a family together - Demitri already has major dad vibes, so he is going to be amazing at it!"

Q: Tell us about the proposal!

A: "We were in Paris for our 5 year anniversary. One of my favorite parts of our relationship are the cards he writes to me on special occasions, so we walked down to the river and found a bench with no one around and he gave me my anniversary card. It said "Kayla, I know how much you love your cards, but I wanted to make this year a little bit more special..." When I looked up he was on his knee. He even had another letter written for me so I wasn't deprived of the long message he usually writes."

Q: What's your ideal date night together?

A: "Tapas and drinks at a restaurant we've never been to before! The ideal is when it is a pre-fixed menu."
