Lifestyle Newborn Sessions have been my absolute favorite. Before Covid, I had an extra bedroom in my home where I turned it into this gorgeous all white space, perfect for newborn studio sessions. It wasn’t until I was almost forced into my “uncomfort” zone of going directly to my clients’ homes for sessions that I realized how much more love and personality I was able to capture.

With an in-home session, family members of all ages are able to be exactly who they are. There isn’t that stress of making sure you have everything you need before you leave your house because it’s all right there for you.

I’ve noticed the biggest change with the “big” siblings. They’re able to showcase who they are and having my attention while still capturing other details of their new little sibling.

Of course, their favorite toys/friends can join in on the fun too!!

Often times, toddlers just need a break away from the camera with either a snack or a quick change of scenery. This is when I like to focus solely on the parents and getting those undivided attention images… How adorable is that headband?!

Once I make sure we’ve covered all of the bases with the family images and baby had a quick feed/break, we focus on only the newborn’s portraits. I keep these as natural as possible and only bring with me a few dainty props and wraps. Parents receive a prep guide and questionnaire previous to our session together where I ask about colors around the home and general styles they lean toward. This allows me to plan ahead and only bring what I know mom will like.

Finally, if there are any heirloom items or props that the parents have picked, I’ll make sure to incorporate them into the session. Most times, these are things that grandparents have purchased and even made so that when parents are picking images, they can gift some prints to them showcasing those items.
