When I was in college I remember taking my frist Psychology course and learning about how proximity impacts relationships. Don’t quote me on this but I recall that the individuals who lived near the entrance hallway managed to know more of the people on the floor than those who lived near the end of the hallway. The reasoning being that more residents pass those doors seeing those who lived in the first rooms more frequently. A stronger familiarity was built between the residents who passed each other more frequently.

We’ve lived next to the Stanley family every since I moved in thirteen years ago. Liza and I have raised our kids together, literally, from birth. I am so thankful to have them as neighbors. I am thankful that we have built a relationship on faith and trust. Because of that history together I felt right at home getting the chance to photograph Liza’s extended family last fall. All these familiar faces, people who I have met through the years because of the familiarity of our families just blessed my heart. Extended family is so precious to me. THIS is what legacy feels like, coming home.
