First birthdays are nothing short of extra special, not only for the little one who is turning one but for the parents and first-time grandparents who can celebrate a whole year of adding another generation to the family.
When this mom contacted me about doing her son’s first birthday photos, it was right around when things were starting to open up a bit after our initial “Covid Lockdown”. We decided to do them outdoors since the weather was warming up and we wanted to be sure to be out in the open air for health purposes.
I seriously cannot get over this little cutie’s smile! Mom wanted his first birthday theme to be Peter Rabbit so thankfully I had my Spring decor still up around my home and decided to bring a few things with me. These carrots are a super cute find from Hobby Lobby. They matched perfectly with the plaid bunny his mom already had and a teal fluff I had that’s usually used for newborn sessions.
When we were first discussing all of the details for this session, mom had asked if grandparents could be included. My answer will ALWAYS be ABSOLUTELY!
Having photos with grandparents are those moments that you don’t get back. I recently had a grandparent pass and thankfully I was able to take photos of my kids with my grandmother so they have something to look back on whenever they wanted.
I usually post the locations of my sessions but this field was directly in my clients’ backyard. Could you imagine waking up to this each morning and seeing this gorgeous sunset every night? And it’s a protected preserve too so they’ll never have to worry about any building behind them. Pure perfection!
Mom and me and dad and me photos will always take place. I believe that each child needs to see photos of them with their parents and family members and then DISPLAYED around their home. It’s actually been proven to elevate their emotions and lessen stress and anxiety.
And of course, for full family sessions, I will ALWAYS snap a few photos of mom and dad together. Moms are always the ones taking photos so having them #getinphotos will be something I will always stand behind and make sure happens. When was the last time you and you partner had photos taken together?
