Sarah and Anthony first contacted me to photograph their wedding after seeing work I did with her cousin, Chelsey of Styles by Chelsey. She loved the images that I had created and hoped I was available for their Big Day! They were planning a wedding at Providence Public Library in December of 2020. It was the perfect venue as she talked about her love for books like Harry Potter and Pride and Prejudice. She set the scene as she described to me the candles in vases and books for details. It would be an elegant wedding with winter pine colors and dark charcoal suits. But she also mentioned she loved Sex and the City. I remember this, because now that I type, what a wonderful twist as they changed course and planned a New Bedford City Hall elopement… much like Carrie and Big (spoiler alert).
With so much unknown in 2020, we switched gears and I planned to capture the elopement. This was their special day and they didn’t know if they’d be able to hold their December wedding. I knew that Sarah and Anthony had a wonderful love story, but it became so much more evident from the moment I walked into Sarah’s parent's home. As Chelsey finished the final touches to Sarah’s gorgeous classic look, Anthony was there spending time with his in-laws to be. Although not married yet, you could tell that everyone was family already. Their love story started as teenagers and as I found out from speeches, the note to hang out almost didn’t get to Sarah. Thankfully- everything worked out!
We headed over to New Bedford City Hall, making it past the lady who somehow didn’t have the appointment listed, to the clerk’s office. Anthony and Sarah exchanged rings, sealed it with a kiss and made their way back outside where friends and family cheered and sprayed bubbles everywhere! The rain luckily held off for us and were we able to take some family photos and portraits by City Hall. Afterwards, the couple had a small initimate reception at family's house. The rain picked back up, but the tent was a perfect spot to do their first dance and to listen to emotional speeches from their parents and Sarah’s best friend. They’ve endured long distance and heartache, but as long as they’ve had each other, the rest has fallen into place. A true love story.
Enjoy some of the favorites from this beautiful elopement!
