Oh did I have so much fun on this wedding day. At the time of their wedding, October 8th 2022, I have been working as wedding photographer in the city of Boston for almost six years. However, in all of that time, there were many things I had never done, nor has happen to me on the wedding day which did happen on this one. It was an adventitious day of first for me as a shooter. It was so very exciting.
I have never photographed a wedding at a casino. I have never stayed at a casino hotel. Ever. This wedding day changed that. We started our story at the Encore Boston Harbor. A massive gem of a landmark on the far north side of Boston. This hotel is a photographer's dream. The stunning elegant exterior architecture, the extravagant and colorful interior provided numerous opportunities to amazing shots. Although we only started our wedding day the Encore, it was an amazing experience.
I always start the wedding day by capturing the details. Typically this involves finding a place to hang the wedding dress. I want somewhere which is not too distracting, compliments the dress, but also reflects the bride's unique personality. Today I could not quite decide. I shot it three places. I am also a big fan of pop art painter Roy Lichtenstein. He is the artist of the center painting. I would very much recommend checking him out. I felt the ornamental frame work around the elevator doors were so fancy, bold, and beautiful, which reminded me so much of the bride Erica.
We had an absolutely amazing and joyous group of bridesmaids on this wedding day. These ladies were up and about, active, running around, making sure everything was running smoothly, keeping the bride happy. They were awesome.
The suite at the Encore hotel was simply designed for wedding photography. The room was huge with massive floor to ceiling windows. This allowed in tons of light, and made my images bright, clear, and powerful. They also framed the amazing skyline of downtown Boston and the harbor.
Another first on this wedding day was the Rolls. The couple rented an antique Rolls-Royce for the big day. This automobile, rented from Boston Bridal Bus, was shear elegance. I believe it was a 1948 Silver Wraith model with an all wooden interior and the wings of freedom on the hood. I loved this car. This car was a wedding photographer's dream. It provided us with so many opportunities for amazing portraits with the bride. I love it when a couple sets up props and locations for their portraits.
The wedding ceremony and reception were held at the beautiful Bellevue Golf Club of Melrose Massachusetts. It is a large estate with many sweeping views of its various fairways and a very elegant and contemporary ball room.
My favorite weddings to photograph are ones which are outside. These are the events that allow me to move around the most, to find new and exciting compositions and different points of view. Additionally because the wedding is outside, I can backup a bit, zoom in, and capture more intimate moments without distracting from any of the guests experience. It also allows me to experiment more with various different photographic techniques.
